Watch the quick-start video
Our video shows you how to assemble and set up your vacuum so it's ready to use.
Charge before first use
It's important to charge the battery before using your vacuum for the first time. This helps the battery monitoring system's algorithm more accurately calculate remaining run time.
Getting to know your LCD screen
As you vacuum, a Piezo sensor counts and measures the microscopic particles picked up. Results are displayed in a graph on-screen, with particles ranked into four sizes, from 0–500 microns (µm) and above.
How the graph works
As you vacuum, a piezo sensor counts and measures the microscopic particles picked up. Results are displayed in a graph on-screen, with particles ranked into four sizes, from 0–500 microns (µm) and above.¹
10µm – particles as small as allergens and pollen
60µm – particles as small as microscopic dust and skin flakes
180µm – particles as small as dust mites and fine sand
500µm – particles as small as sugar granules
Powerful cleaning, measured in microns
The graph is available in all power modes, with all accessories. Like our famous transparent bin, it shows how much dust you've removed after every clean. To reset the graph, charge for 30 minutes, or remove the battery for 15 seconds.
How do I know I've achieved a deep clean?
When lots of dust is being vacuumed, the graph rises quickly. But as less and less dust is picked up, it slows down, letting you know you've achieved a thorough deep clean.
Understanding your LCD screen
During cleaning, your LCD screen shows the particle count graph, with remaining run time colour-coded to indicate the power mode selected.
Second-by-second run time
Remaining run time is shown on screen in a second-by-second countdown, which constantly updates in real time, according to the power mode you select.
To help maintain performance, your vacuum will remind you when it's time to recharge the battery, or clean the filter. It'll even help you clear any blockages.
Settings, alerts and notifications
To enter the settings menu, hold the selection button. Tap the button to scroll through the options, hold to select. Press the power button at any time to start vacuuming.
Choose your preferred language.
Turn screen and audible maintenance alerts on/off.
Switch the particle count graph on/off. When the graph is turned off, the LCD screen shows power mode and remaining run time during cleaning.
In Auto mode, suction power is automatic. More dust, more power. Set motor sensitivity to 'High', and auto suction reacts more often, to lower amounts of dust. Set to 'Low', and it reacts less often, with higher concentrations of dust.
Please charge your battery. Your machine will stop when the charge has been depleted. When run time is low, your machine will pulse three times to alert you.
Filter not sealed
The filter section is not fully interlocked. The on-screen animation shows you which sections to look at.
A blockage has been detected. Watch the animation to see which airways to check. Your machine will also pulse seven times to alert you.
Your filter needs cleaning. Follow the advice further down the page to wash your filter.
If you use Boost mode frequently, this message will appear, to help you conserve battery life.
Getting to know your power modes
Your vacuum has three power modes, each designed for different tasks. Change power mode quickly by tapping the selection button.
The optimum balance of power and run time. Med mode applies when a non-powered tool is attached.
Maximum run time, for longer cleans all around your home.
For the toughest tasks. Designed for quick, intensive cleaning of ground-in dirt.
Intelligent suction power
Dyson recommends Auto mode for the best experience. In Auto mode, suction power automatically increases when higher concentrations of dust are detected. Once the dust is removed, power returns to normal to conserve the battery.2
2Suction optimisation works in Auto mode only.

Charging the battery
You can charge your battery on or off the machine, and on or off the wall dock.
If you have an additional battery, you can achieve 120 minutes of run time in Eco mode. Swap batteries quickly by pressing the red battery release button, and sliding the battery off your machine. Your extra battery clicks into place.
Charge between cleans
It can take up to 4.5 hours to fully charge your battery. When the green tick is displayed, charging is complete.
Leave it charging
Your battery is designed to be left plugged in, so it's always ready to use.
Looking after multiple batteries
If you have an additional battery, we recommend charging it soon after purchase, and alternating batteries regularly to prolong battery health.
Storing your batteries
If you're not using your batteries, we recommend storing them with a charge of 30%.
How to clean your vacuum
Cleaning removes dust build-up and helps optimise performance. The filter and brush bar in the Dyson Laser Slim Fluffy™ cleaner head can be washed, and the bin and tools wiped clean.
Why it's important to clean your filter regularly
The filter captures microscopic dust, which can accumulate and affect performance. Help maintain suction by washing the filter at least once a month, or more frequently if used heavily.
How to clean your filter
2. Remove excess dust
Tap your filter lightly on the side of the sink or in the bin, to remove any loose dust and debris.
1. Remove your Dyson filter
Remove your filter by unscrewing the post-motor filter from the machine.
3. Rinse filter
Wash your filter with warm tap water – gently rubbing it with your hands. Don't use detergents.
4. Give it a firm shake
Fill your filter with warm tap water. Cover the open ends with your hands and shake firmly to remove the dirt. It's important not to agitate the filter media, i.e. the pleated elements. Repeat until the water runs clear, and then firmly shake the filter to remove all excess water.
5. Leave to dry for 24+ hours
After washing your filter, leave to dry for at least 24 hours in an area with plenty of airflow, such as beside a fan or open window. When drying, position the filter with the larger end on the surface. Your filter must be completely dry before you put it back into the machine, or it could damage the motor. Don't dry in a tumble dryer, microwave or near a naked flame.
Don't overfill the bin
Overfilling the bin can reduce suction and affect the accuracy of the particle count. To maintain suction, empty as soon as debris reaches the MAX marker.
Your LCD screen will alert you if there's a blockage in your machine's airways. On-screen animation shows you which airflow pathways to check.
Washing the Dyson Laser Slim Fluffy™ brush bar
You can wash your Laser Slim Fluffy™ cleaner head's brush bar in warm water.
